About Us Waggy Tales was launched in 2005 by Andrew Devis. Andrew had been working in the pet care industry for a number of years, and had noticed that most "Doggie Daycare" operations were run from peoples back gardens, some of which were suitable, and some of which, clearly were not. Often the people that offered doggie daycare, also offered dog walking, and other services. So what was happening, was that people would take dogs on for daycare, then leave them home alone while they walked other dogs. This hardly seemed fair, either to the owners, or more importantly, to the dogs. Then Andrew had a dream! The dream was to find a big field in the country, where the dogs could get their exercise, and have a safe comfortable place to shelter from the elements, all at the same place. Then the dogs would never have to be left alone, and they could exercise as much or as little as they wanted! In the really good versions of the dream, the field was on the banks of a huge lake that the dogs could swim in whenever it got hot ! And there was always more than one staff member at the field, so dogs could be taken on out walks and swims, while the other dogs were continually looked after. Of course in the dreams the field was far from busy roads, so if there was a failure of the fence, it wouldn't really matter... It was like finding a needle in a haystack, but we eventually found our field, and it ticks all the boxes, even the lake. We are very proud of what we have achieved, and we welcome all our customers at the field at any time. We also welcome prospective customers by appointment. We also have an open day (it's called tea and cake day) once a year where all the customers come to the field on a Saturday and meet each other, and obviously have tea and cake ! There is no other daycare service like ours, and if you think your dog would be happy with us, please give us a call to arrange a trial.     Frequently asked questions about Waggy Tales !   Are there any plans to franchise Waggy Tales ? In a word, No ! Looking after people's best friends is a huge responsibility, and you cannot really assess someone's suitability for pet care in a few franchise interviews. Also, we suspect it is easy for one's judgment to be impaired when the person whom you are interviewing has cash to give you for a franchise of your company. So no, we are not going down this route. All staff will be hired after a rigorous selection process, and if they turn out to be unworthy of our high standards, we let them go. What areas do you cover ? We only collect from Ham, Richmond, Kew, East Sheen, Parts of Barnes, & Chiswick. Straying out of these areas even slightly would result in us spending too much time on the road, and we just wont do it. If you are unsure if we cover your area, please send us your postcode, and we will let you know if and when we can help you. How long are the dogs in the van ? Well take Chiswick, we start collections at 7am, and all the dogs are collected by 7:45, plus 35 minutes to the field, so 80 minutes there. On the way back we do the drop off in the same order as the collection, so the dog that is collected first is also dropped off first, adding only 40 minutes to that dogs journey time. So each dog will spend only two hours a day in the van, and remember the van is cool, comfortable, and full of friends. It's a far nicer place than being home alone, or left unattended at a dodgy doggie daycare operation. The collection times in Richmond & Kew are roughly the same as Chiswick. Is Waggy Tales better that other Doggie Daycare operations ? Yes, loads :-) If you are still in any doubt, come and see us, and then go and visit our "competition". Pay special attention to where the dogs are walked, how many are walked at a time, and how experienced the walker is. Ask how long they have been doing daycare, and how much experience they have. Ask to see the place where the dogs are kept when they are not being walked, and ask if they are always supervised. Ask what other duties the staff are expected to perform while they are supposed to be caring for your dogs. Ask if the staff are paid handsome salaries, or commission. Commission is fine for selling vacuum cleaners, but paying pet care staff on commission is totally irresponsible as it puts them under pressure to take more dogs than they can safely handle. Ask if they take one off dogs, or only dogs who come on regular days. Because every time you introduce a new dog to the pack, you change the dynamics of the pack, and the odds of fights, bites, and spooked dogs running off, are greatly increased. How much does it cost? The cost for a day is £25.00 per dog. It may sound like a lot, but when you consider that a two hour long dog walk will cost you £20.00, and for the rest of that day your poor doggie will sit at home alone staring at the window, the extra £5 for a fun filled day in the country, hardly seems like a lot! If your dog comes every day, the cost drops to £22.00 per day. Who Comes to Daycare? Dogs whose parents work full time are our main customers. We also look after dogs for owners who are usually at home, but have one day a week where they like to get out and about, and our third main group of customers are dog lovers who only have one dog, but recognise that dogs both like and need the company of other dogs. Responsible puppy owners also send us there puppies a few days a week so they can learn the socialisation skills so necessary for a happy well balanced dog! Are there any dogs you wont take? Well yes, obviously we won't take aggressive dogs of any sort, any of the fighting breeds, pit bulls etc. And we won't take any un- castrated male over the age of 6 months. While an un-castrated male be completely docile and non aggressive by itself, they cannot control the effect their scent has on other male dogs, and years of experience in this matter has taught us it is simply not responsible to create these situations. The only exception we might make, is if for medical reasons a dog cannot be castrated until the age of a year, we would consider the case individually. If my dog spends so much time with you, and has so much fun, won't he love you more than me? Well no, while your dogs are always happy to see us, some even look out the window waiting for us to arrive in the morning, they know where their home is, and whom their master is, and they are always happy to go home after a fun filled day in the country! Do I need to have set days for daycare, or can I send my dog anytime? We unfortunately need to have set days, at least one day a week. This is because we need to plan our routes so that the dogs time in the van is minimised, and we can't do that if we have different "one off" daycare's every day. We are also always full, so we usually can't fit in "one offs" anyway. That said, if your dog comes to us Tuesday's and Thursdays, and you need some other days during the week, we will certainly squeeze you in if at all possible. Do you take Puppies?
